Alyson Currie, BSW, SWC

Alyson came to Caregivers Nova Scotia in September 2007, bringing with her over ten years of experience working directly with Caregivers in both Pediatric Health Research and Health Care Social Work. She has worked in areas of research and direct service, to help improve the lives of children with disabilities, persons with mental health illnesses and adults with cancer. Alyson is also currently working toward her Master’s Degree in Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker Candidate.

As the Caregiver Support Coordinator it is Alyson’s job and pleasure to assist Caregivers by providing emotional counseling and supports, on an individual basis or within our support groups. Alyson is also our Caregiver’s link to resources such as service providers and educational materials. Alyson is passionate about her community and works with a community based outreach program providing services to youth and adults who are at risk. She also volunteers her time for various fund-raising events held by the IWK Health Centre Foundation.

Alyson is a Caregiver herself and understands first hand the joys and challenges of giving care while balancing the needs of both herself and the family members for whom she cares. She understands first hand the complexity of life as a Caregiver. Alyson is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive services possible to all Caregivers, whether they be caring for a family member, friend or neighbor. She does this in a compassionate and caring manner and is determined to fill every need possible.
