Cape Breton Support Coordinator - JoAnne Connors

JoAnne Connors, BA Psyc

JoAnne is pleased to have joined Caregivers Nova Scotia in September 2009, bringing with her over 20 years of experience working directly with families and caregivers in community based settings, across Canada.  She has worked in the areas of research and direct service to help improve the lives of Caregivers with children and adult children with special needs,  persons with mental health issues, and families in crisis.

As the Caregiver Support Coordinator for Cape Breton Island, it is JoAnne’s pleasure to assist Caregivers by providing emotional counseling and supports, on an individual basis or within our support groups in both English and French. JoAnne is also our Caregiver’s link to resources such as service providers and educational materials. JoAnne is very involved in her community and works with the Roots of Empathy Program, which promotes the development of compassion and empathy in our youngest generation, who will be our future caregivers. She has also sat on many committees and working groups dedicated to improving access to resources for people in rural settings across Canada. She volunteers her time for various projects, including Relay for Life, 30 Hour Famine, and is an active Guider with a group of Pathfinders.

JoAnne is a Caregiver at a distance for her parents, and understands first hand the complexities and challenges of helping to organize care for family members, while balancing the needs of both herself, and her immediate family.  She is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive services possible to all Caregivers, whether they be caring for a family member, friend or neighbor, and committed to developing a  network which supports Caregivers in both urban and rural Cape Breton communities.
