Provincial Caregiving Organizations

Many caregivers, their families, and friends are not aware that there are three other provincial caregiving organizations in Canada. They all provide valuable programs and services to help support unpaid caregivers. You can find more information about each one below. Caregivers Nova Scotia values the work they do and the opportunity to partner with them.

Caregivers Alberta - Founded in 2001, Caregivers Alberta is an organization of caregivers, for caregivers, and Alberta’s only dedicated caregiver organization. They improve the lives of caregivers by providing group and one-on-one supports that help caregivers, increasing communities’ capacity to support caregivers, and advocating for policy changes that will make a difference in caregivers’ lives.

Family Caregivers of British Columbia -  Established in 1989 as the Family Caregivers Network Society, it was the first organization of its kind in Canada. Today, its mission is to improve the quality of life for family caregivers through support, information, and education. They provide leadership to strengthen the voice of family caregivers and the significance of their role.

The Ontario Caregiver Organization - is Canada's newest caregiving organization, established on April 3, 2018. It will be a one-stop resource for friends and family caring for loved ones that will provide or coordinate a full range of supports for Ontario caregivers, including: navigation of available services, facilitating access to information, and promoting collaboration between existing organizations. It will also play an advisory role on research and policy related to caregiving.

The Powerhouse Project - has two centres in the Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk Regions that support caregiving children, youth, young adults and their families through social, recreational and educational programs intended to foster resilience, self-esteem, and life skills. Although not technically a provincial caregiving organization, we include The Powerhouse Project here because they are the only organization in Canada whose focus is young caregivers.
