The descriptions are provided by the organizations themselves and reviewed by CNS before being added. However, the services are not vetted by CNS, and we cannot recommend one over another.

Bayshore Home Health - Offers a wide range of home care services in HRM, including home care companions who provide companionship, purchase groceries, or accompany clients to appointments. Blissful Living Home Care Services - They offer support to help loved ones live independently as long as they wish to remain at home. Comforting Companions - is focused on helping you with those you love, whether through Dementia Care Education, Consultation, or Companion Care, they are there to help. The owner and founder is a Certified Dementia Care Trainer, Consultant, and Engagement Leader, trained by Teepa Snow and her team at Positive Approach to Care. Golden Living - Senior Lifestyle Support - Camryn offers lifestyle enrichment activities to seniors living in their own homes, as well as in-home non-medical support, companionship, and movement/exercise sessions. Camryn is committed to bringing a unique, fun, and personable experience to both the client and their family. Golden Living also hosts a wide range of programs and events for seniors living in the community. Camryn has a background in Therapeutic Recreation Gerontology and is a Certified Yoga Teacher. Her services are offered via packages that are explained on her website. Grocery Delivery/Shopping Services

Atlantic Superstore - Provides online shopping and delivery services at various locations throughout HRM including Halifax, Dartmouth, Burnside, Middle Sackville, Upper Sackville, Lower Sackville, Lakeview, Clayton Park, Cole Harbour, Armdale, and Spryfield. To arrange delivery services online, you'll need to go to the PC Express website and create an account to get started. 

Couryah - Food, groceries, medicine & more available for delivery right to your doorstep in the HRM!

Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre - Providing a pilot program for grocery delivery from July 1-31, 2021. It is $15 for members. You give them your grocery list, they order it online, pick it up, and deliver it to your door. Call 902.465.5578 ext. 214 to find out more.

Gilbert's Grocery Delivery - delivers groceries to people in and around HRM.  Food preparation, cooking, and baking services are also provided. Call 902.460.8528.

Pete's Frootique - the Halifax and Bedford locations provide shopping and delivery services Monday - Friday. Orders must be called in between 8 am and 12 pm. Call 902.425.5700. You can also email your request to: frontendhalifax@petes.ca before 12:00 pm on the day you want the items delivered. In addition to your shopping list, make sure to include your full contact details, desired delivery time, any food allergies, brand preferences, etc. 

Sobeys - The following stores offer grocery delivery but customers must go into the store to do the shopping:
North & Windsor: 902.455.8508. Wednesdays only. Shopping must be done before 4 pm. Delivery happens later in the day/evening.
Mumford Rd: 902.454.7277. Shop between 11 am and 4 pm. Deliveries happen later the same day/evening.

Health Professionals/Mental Health Services

Allied Therapy - is a private practice serving clients in the HRM. They provide speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, applied behavioural analysis, and therapeutic respite. Appointments with Allied Therapy occur virtually, in your home, or in the community. For therapeutic respite services, the client must also be seeing a Master's level clinician. Speech-language pathology and occupational therapy are offered in the Pictou area as well. Visit their website to find out more.

The Bloom Program - The Bloom Program is a community pharmacy initiative designed to increase and improve mental health and addictions care for Nova Scotians. Anyone with a Nova Scotia Health card who has one or more mental health or addiction diagnoses AND a medication problem that they would like to work on with their pharmacist can participate in this program. There is no cost to you to participate, there is no waitlist, you will receive one-on-one care and patient advocacy from your pharmacist, you will receive access to and information about community mental health and addiction resources, and you will receive help managing medication-related issues. Couch of Hope - They provide FREE mental health counseling to individuals, including children ten years of age and up, teens, and adults. They meet with clients in person, via phone, and via video. This flexible delivery opens their services to clients who cannot attend in person due to geography, caregiving responsibilities, work schedules, disability, illness, a lack of reliable or affordable transportation, or personal preference. Dianna Bradley, RMT - provides massage therapy services in their home clinic and offers a residential mobile service for those who are physically unable to travel to a clinic for this service. This service is being offered for the Dartmouth area and any residences within 30 minutes travel time from Dianna's home-based clinic.

Hospice Halifax has compiled a list of counseling services available in NS. They note when sessions can be provided for free or at a reduced cost.

Hear Right Canada - they test your hearing and work with you to select the hearing instruments best suited to meet your needs. They will fit you and provide follow-up support, counseling, and service. They can do warranty work and service on hearing aids whether or not they were purchased through them. NovaHope Cancer Coach Nurse - A Cancer Coach Nurse helps you and your family move forward beyond the cancer experience, into a place where you can feel more at ease. Peer Support Phone Service - Peer Support Nova Scotia is offering a toll-free non-crisis line that is open to Nova Scotians aged 18+ who are struggling in some areas of their life. Trained peer supporters with lived experience of mental health struggles, substance use, or other life challenges are available to listen and support people who call in with non-urgent issues. The line is open Wednesday to Friday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. The toll-free number is 1.800.307.1686.

Physio Care at Home - is a Nova Scotian company committed to providing quality physiotherapy services in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Service available throughout HRM. Call 902.404.4200.

Roy Ellis - Roy is a therapist who provides grief and trauma counseling. He is a Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner (CSCP) with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care. East Dartmouth Mobile Food Market - - Brings fresh, affordable food to Halifax residents with limited access. Orders can be ordered and picked up from three locations:

Heart to Home Meals - offers frozen meals delivered right to your door and they can even put them in the freezer for you! Their menu has standard-sized meals, mini versions for smaller appetites, hearty versions for larger appetites, a range of delicious minced or pureed meals as well as meals that have controlled levels of potassium and phosphorus. The Lunch Lady - Offers meals to children in school, but has recently branched out to offer service to seniors, corporations, daycares, and people in the community. They offer a great menu selection that follows Canada's Food Guide. Their commercial kitchen is located in Lower Sackville and they offer delivery throughout HRM.

Meals on Wheels Halifax - delivers fresh, nutritious meals to residents who are unable to prepare meals themselves. The delivery area includes Halifax Peninsula, Fairview, Spryfield, and Rockingham. Tel: 902.429.4299

Cosmetology Services

Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia - a directory of individuals who provide mobile cosmetology services such as hairdressing, esthetics, pedicures, manicures, artificial nails, eyelash extensions, hair removal, make-up, facials, etc. The Cosmetologists on this website are licensed, hold a business permit, and are in good standing with the Cosmetology Association.

Dental Hygiene

Foot Care

Dr. Michelle Ciach Inc. Foot Care Clinic - provides foot care in their clinic or the client's home (depending on the situation). The client must have a valid health card, but no referral or family physician is necessary to access this service. They maintain communication with the VON and the client's family physician (if applicable).

Harding Medical Foot Care Clinic - Harding Medical has collaborated with Marcienne Mason (RN/Foot Care Provider with a background in critical care nursing) to offer basic and advanced foot care for foot health management in a clinic setting. Extra Care Taxi - HRM Council has partnered with Senior's Transit to create Extra Care Taxi. This new service will be available to everyone but will give priority to those who need assistance to and from their door to the cab, assistance to their doctor's office, and/or wheelchair transport. This taxi service costs the same as any metered taxi service in Metro, but offers so much more! There is no additional charge if a caregiver or loved one accompanies the individual. All of the drivers are compassionate, trained drivers and have clear criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks.

Hope Air - is a registered, national charity that provides free flights to people who cannot afford the cost of an airline ticket to get to medical expertise or specialized medical technologies that usually exist only in larger urban centers.
